Purpose of the Code of Ethics<\/strong><\/h5><p>The purpose of these rules is to define the standard of conduct that representatives of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg, the National Federation of the Disabled (hereinafter Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg), are required to uphold in their official duties on behalf of the national federation. Representatives of Sjalfbj\u00f6rg are defined as board members, managers, office staff, representatives on Sjalfbj\u00f6rg committees, as well as subcontractors who undertake projects on behalf of Sjalfbj\u00f6rg for which the national federation has administrative responsibility.<\/p><p>These rules of conduct should not be viewed as an exhaustive description of good practice, and representatives must always use their judgment according to the circumstances.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 2. Laws and Regulations<\/strong><\/h5><p>In our work, we ensure that we follow the policies, laws, rules, and bylaws of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg. We protect the interests of the national federation and place them above special interests.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 3. Responsibility in Communication<\/strong><\/h5><p>We perform our duties with dedication and conscientiousness, observing courtesy, tact, and fairness, and provide assistance and guidance to those who seek it.<\/p><p>We always show each other courtesy and respect in our interactions.<\/p><p>We treat people without prejudice and with consideration.<\/p><p>We respect the diversity of people with regard to disability in its broadest sense, social status, race, ethnic origin, religion, belief, age, appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, or gender expression in all areas of society.<\/p><p>We can ensure equality among different groups of people with disabilities and patients. We avoid any form of discrimination in our conduct, speech, and writing.<\/p><p>We respect meeting etiquette, arrive on time, and stay on topic.<\/p><p>We avoid paternalism, respect each other&#x27;s right to different opinions, and emphasize substantive discussion.<\/p><p>We criticize constructively, listen, and accept criticism.<\/p><p>We do not interrupt when others are speaking and give everyone a chance to finish their point.<\/p><p>We ask people to repeat themselves if we don&#x27;t hear or understand.<\/p><p>We respect different communication methods and direct our message to the individual we are communicating with, not to an interpreter or assistant.<\/p><p>We speak our minds without hurting others, we ask, inform, and share.<\/p><h5>\u00a0<\/h5><h5><strong>Article 4. Bullying, sexual harassment, and other violence<\/strong><\/h5><p>Bullying, sexual harassment, and other violence are not tolerated. We are always on the lookout and must respond if we witness such behavior.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 5. Financial Prudence<\/strong><\/h5><p>We respect budgets and do not engage in any activity that involves the misuse of the national association&#x27;s assets and funds. We respect the oversight and audits conducted by the national association&#x27;s inspectors and auditors, and we contribute to the achievement of its goals.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 6. Gifts and Benefits<\/strong><\/h5><p>We do not accept gifts that could be construed as personal remuneration for a favor or concession.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 7. Relations with the media and conduct in public<\/strong><\/h5><p>As a rule, the chairman of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg speaks on behalf of the national federation in the media, unless otherwise decided. In communications with the media and in public forums, we conduct our advocacy in accordance with the policies of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg and the ideology of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We provide accurate information, do not make claims beyond what our knowledge allows, and maintain confidentiality.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 8. Dissemination and Review<\/strong><\/h5><p>The Chairman and Executive Director are responsible for introducing the Self-Help Association&#x27;s code of ethics to new national association representatives. The code of ethics shall be discussed by the board after the annual general meeting and revised as necessary.<\/p><h5><strong>Article 9. Confidentiality<\/strong><\/h5><p>We are required to maintain confidentiality regarding matters we learn about in our work that are confidential by nature or by law. The duty of confidentiality persists even after leaving the position. The Code of Ethics is published on the Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg website: www.sjalfsbjorg.is<\/p><h5>\u00a0<\/h5><h5><strong>Article 10. Violation of the Code of Conduct<\/strong><\/h5><p>If representatives of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg become aware that a specific act violates these rules of conduct, they should bring it to the attention of an administrator. In this context, the administrator is, as applicable, the Executive Director or the Chairperson of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg. If a serious violation of these rules of conduct occurs, the appropriate external authorities will be contacted.<\/p><p>These rules were approved by the board of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg on August 19, 2024.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1. gr.
