The goal of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation is to fight for full equality of physically disabled people in Iceland and to inform the public about the circumstances of physically disabled people. To reach this goal, Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation cooperates with the government, municipalities, various interest groups, and individuals in Iceland. Despite improvements for disabled people over the years, there is still a long way to go to reach full equality.<\/p>

Services<\/b><\/p>

A rental service with mobility equipment for physically disabled people is one of the companies located in our building and is called\u00a0htl<\/a>.<\/i>\u00a0The rental offers a variety of equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers for short term rentals for residents of Iceland and visitors.<\/p>

Htl rental is located in H\u00e1t\u00fan 12, 105 Reykjav\u00edk and is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 \u2013 15:00. You can visit their website\u00a0htl.is<\/a>\u00a0or send them an email at\u00a0david@htl.is<\/a>\u00a0for information and rentals.<\/p>

Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation is a partner and sponsor to\u00a0Ramp Up Iceland<\/b><\/a>. Ramp Up Iceland aims to build 1000 ramps in four years all over Iceland. You can follow the progress at\u00a0https:\/\/www.rampur.is<\/a>\u00a0or follow their Instagram\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>

Sj\u00e1lfsbjargarh\u00fasi\u00f0<\/i>\u00a0(e. House of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg) is an apartment and office building owned by Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation. In the building the confederation offers accessible housing for rent to people with disabilities. A variety of operations can be found in the building, alongside accessible apartments and offices for rent. Noticeably\u00a0Sj\u00e1lfsbjargarheimili\u00f0<\/i><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(e. Home of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg), a rehabilitation center with a swimming pool. As well as the office of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation, office of Sj\u00e1lfsbjargarheimili\u00f0 and the office of the Reykjav\u00edk chapter of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg.<\/p>

Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation operates a knowledge center for disabled people in Iceland called\u00a0\u00deekkingarmi\u00f0st\u00f6\u00f0 Sj\u00e1lfsbjargar<\/i><\/b><\/a>\u00a0. On their website is information about support available from municipalities and government, as well as accessible recreational options. Unfortunately, all the information is in Icelandic, but everybody is welcome to send an email to\u00a0info@sjalfsbjorg.is<\/a>\u00a0with any inquiries regarding disability in Iceland.<\/p>

History<\/b><\/p>

Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation has a long history in Iceland and was established in 1959. The first chapter was established in Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in 1958 and now Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg has 12 chapters all over Iceland. Since 1963 Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg Confederation has been a proud member of Nordisk Handikap F\u00f6rbund (NHF) a confederation of organizations for disabled people in the Nordic countries. In 1966 the building of Sj\u00e1lfsbjargarh\u00fas started and in 1973 the first inhabitants moved in. After a prosperous growth period the rehabilitation center with the pool was ready in 1988.<\/p>
