The history website of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg, the National Federation of the Disabled, was originally created to commemorate Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg's 50th anniversary. Historian Anna \u00d3lafsd\u00f3ttir Bj\u00f6rnsson undertook to write the history of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg for the web version, based on existing printed sources and conducting interviews with two pioneers, \u00d3l\u00f6fu R\u00edkar\u00f0sd\u00f3ttur in Reykjav\u00edk and P\u00e1l\u00ednu Snorrad\u00f3ttur in Hverager\u00f0i, who is also knowledgeable about the early years of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Both possess extensive knowledge of the history of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg and have contributed significantly to the national association's journal. In addition, an interview that Anna conducted with \u00d3l\u00f6f for Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg's 50th anniversary publication will be published as part of this website after the journal's release. Valdimar Tryggvason, brother of the late Vilborg Tryggvad\u00f3ttir, gifted Self-Help the photographs she had taken and cataloged with great enthusiasm.<\/p>

The Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg photo archive was also extremely useful. The result of that work was nearly sixty websites, in six main sections. The website is set up with the idea that it is easy to add knowledge and information to it, both from older sources and new events.<\/p>

Since the author presented the story website to Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg on the association's 50th anniversary, On June 4, 2009, the editorial control and copyright of the material were transferred to Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg, and all additions and new chapters, even if they are the work of other authors, will become part of a living history website that will hopefully be in constant update and renewal. "The past is no longer what it once was," said a Norwegian historian a few years ago, and the author would like to make those words his own. Web-based versions of historical material are an interesting alternative and, to some extent, offer a different kind of historiography than history written for print publication. The author hopes, however, that the original text will remain largely unaltered, but all necessary additions, that is, brief interjections and corrections, are of course justified.<\/p>

Everyone is permitted to use material from the website for informational purposes and as a source on the history of people with disabilities in Iceland.<\/p>
