Yesterday, A\u00f0gengisstroll, an awareness campaign about accessibility issues, took place. The campaign was organized by six associations: CP, GIGT, MND, MS, SEM, and SJ\u00c1LFSBJ\u00d6RG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of the stroll was to raise awareness about the importance of accessibility for the large group of individuals, children and adults, who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices to get around in the community. Accessibility has improved significantly in the 65 years since Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg was founded, and this is thanks to the dedicated advocates of many organizations for improved accessibility. There was therefore reason to celebrate what has been done well and to encourage continued advocacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members met at the Human Rights House in Sigt\u00fan, armed themselves with signs bearing encouraging words about access to various areas of society, balloons, and flags, and then set off in a procession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The route led up to Su\u00f0urlandsbraut at the intersection with Kringlum\u00fdrarbraut, and the group of over 40 people marched in several circles across this major intersection. It's safe to say the stunt drew attention and positive reactions from drivers and pedestrians alike, with many honking their horns in encouragement for the group. After the event, the group met at the Human Rights House, ate together, and enjoyed each other's company. It was decided to repeat the event in early fall.
