{"id":7607,"date":"2024-12-17T13:41:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T13:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sjalfsbjorg.is\/?p=7607"},"modified":"2026-04-29T10:59:45","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T10:59:45","slug":"atvinnuthatttaka-hreyfihamlads-folks-og-unndis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjalfsbjorg.is\/en\/atvinnuthatttaka-hreyfihamlads-folks-og-unndis\/","title":{"rendered":"Employment participation of people with disabilities and Unnd\u00eds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This morning, December 17, 2024, the chairman and executive director of Sj\u00e1lfsbj\u00f6rg LSH met with Sara D\u00f6gg Svanhildard\u00f3ttir, a project manager from the Employment Authority (VMST), about the employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Sara D\u00f6gg introduced Unnd\u00eds, a tool\/guide with a built-in assessment system that supports the implementation of an inclusive workplace culture, taking into account people with&nbsp;<strong>variable work capacity<\/strong>&nbsp;and is modeled on the United Nations&#x27; strategy (UNDIS \u2013 United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy). At the meeting, we discussed workplace accessibility and what needs to be in place for people with disabilities to have the opportunity to participate in the labor market. An interesting meeting about important issues related to access to employment and access to society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the fall of 2025, changes to the disability pension system will take effect that include&nbsp;<strong>new thinking<\/strong>&nbsp;which is intended to lead to&nbsp;<strong>Greater incentive for labor participation<\/strong>&nbsp;people with varying degrees of work capacity. Increased employment participation of this group requires&nbsp;<strong>increase in part-time jobs<\/strong>&nbsp;in the labor market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the introduction of the changes to the disability pension system, it is expected that more people with specialized expertise, who have left the labor market due to accidents or illnesses and lost some of their work capacity, will return to the workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To meet these changes, it is urgent to increase the number of part-time jobs in the labor market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unnd\u00eds&#x27;s goal is to decisively support companies with consulting, education, and follow-up so that the increase in part-time jobs becomes a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Employment Service has been tasked with leading Unnd\u00edsi with the goal of reaching as many companies and state and local government institutions as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Corporate participation in Unnd\u00edsi includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conducting a situational assessment using the Unnd\u00edsar assessment scale on all workplace components that support the employment participation of people with varying degrees of work capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review of the gender equality plan with regard to inclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of a workplace&#x27;s opportunity to increase part-time jobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing an action plan aimed at hiring for part-time positions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular reassessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Employment Service offers the following support for the implementation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overseeing and promoting Unnd\u00edsi and its services to the workplace during the project&#x27;s implementation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessment of the workplace&#x27;s inclusion status using Unnd\u00eds&#x27;s assessment tool.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultation to explore opportunities for part-time work within the organization or company.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education about reasonable accommodation in the workplace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for hiring and, as appropriate, follow-up on the hiring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for the development of an implementation timeline and action plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessment of the policy and the success of its implementation.
