Courageous rehabilitation

The largest and most extensive operating unit of Sjálfsbjörg National Association is Kjarkur Rehabilitation, which is run in part of the Sjálfsbjörg House. Kjarkur Rehabilitation has been in operation for 50 years and was previously called the Sjálfsbjörg Home, but the name was changed in June 2023. This was done to better capture the rehabilitation services provided. Kjarkur Rehabilitation provides interdisciplinary, individualized rehabilitation for individuals with mobility impairments resulting from neurological and brain injuries. The goal of the rehabilitation is for individuals to be able to return to life after completing their rehabilitation. Both day program and 24-hour rehabilitation services are provided, and maintenance rehabilitation is also offered.

Kjarki Rehabilitation employs a diverse team of specialists. The operation is publicly funded and its management is based on the Health Services Act No. 40/2007. Further information about the operation can be found at www.kjarkurendurhaefing.is
