Education, Continuing Education, and Courses. The Center for Education and Continuing Education offers various courses, programs, and professional development. Some of them offer courses and training programs that can be taken while receiving unemployment benefits. Most of these places offer academic and career counseling. Liberal arts colleges/Public schools
A folk high school is a type of school that developed in the Nordic countries, especially Denmark, and is based on the ideals and ideas of N.F.S. Grundtvig. Folkehøjskoler were originally popular schools for adult students aged 18 and older who were preparing for life, and the teaching was focused on making students good citizens. The school was meant to prepare students for life, not for taking exams and getting jobs. Over time, the school format evolved, and there was a greater emphasis on the development of the individual. Today, there are folk high schools in most Nordic countries that Icelanders can also attend.
The Nordic Society – Folk High Schools in the Nordic Countries
The Nordic Society in Iceland Provides information about studies at folk high schools in the Nordic countries. Additionally, the association provides an annual scholarship for Icelandic students studying at a folk high school in another Nordic country. The scholarship is subject to funding from Nordplus. Egmont High School is a public university in Jutland, Denmark that offers special accommodations and also special programs for students who want to be assistants to students with disabilities.
Icelandic Youth Association
Icelandic Youth Association Højskolernes Hus in Copenhagen and the Icelandic topos have a partnership agreement for a project related to the study stays of Icelandic youth at Danish folk high schools. Højskolernes Hus oversees all folk high schools in Denmark, and therefore the course offerings are diverse.
The purpose of the grant is to give young people an opportunity to broaden their horizons. Also an opportunity to get to know a new language and culture, increase their skills and knowledge in a chosen field through informal learning, and strengthen their leadership skills at the same time.
Application deadlines are twice a year. In the fall, August/September, applications are open for the fall term and the full school year. Around the new year, December/January, applications are open for the spring term.
