Swimming

Swimming is the sport that has been practiced the longest by people with disabilities. Disabled Icelandic swimmers have been very successful in international competitions from the very beginning, and for example, ÍFR has had swimmers in numerous Nordic, European, World Championship, and Paralympic Games.

Boccia

Boccia is the most popular sport among people with disabilities in this country. In boccia, the game is played with 6 differently colored balls and one white ball. The white ball is first thrown onto the court, and then the goal is to hit it as closely as possible with the other balls. Table tennis

Table tennis has been practiced at the Sports Association for the Disabled since its founding. Iceland has had competitors at the Olympic Games. The game can be easily adapted for people with mobility impairments, with competition in both standing and sitting categories.

Archery

Archery has been available to individuals with mobility impairments since the founding of the Sports Association for the Disabled. The game can be easily adapted to different abilities, and there are examples of able-bodied people also practicing the sport with disabled people.

Golf

Horseback riding

Skiing

With the right equipment, almost anyone can go skiing. Specialized equipment that people with disabilities have used includes sit-skiing (traditional skis on the feet, but the ski pole is also on skis), sit-skis, and a ski cart.

Shooting accuracy

Dart

Disabled Archers' Club Offers darts for people with disabilities. They have excellent accessibility and the game can be adapted for each individual. All equipment is available and can be borrowed.
