Sjúkratryggingar Íslands administers health insurance, and the institution negotiates and pays for healthcare services.

The Patient Insurance phone service now has a new format. The operations of the Service Center have been enhanced to handle all incoming inquiries. When contact with specialists from the business units is needed, inquiries are directed there via email. With this change, Sjúkratryggingar's goal is to increase the organization's service level and reduce wait times.

Patient Insurance Assistive Technology Center
The Assistive Technology Center of the National Insurance Institute of Iceland (HTM) to handle the processing of Applications for assistive devices and manages the reuse of the equipment.

Sjúkratryggingar Íslands participates in the subsidization of various aids and services for people with disabilities and those who are covered by health insurance. The institution participates in the subsidization of the following services and entitlements:
- Assistive devices and nutrition
- Specialists and Medical Services
- Psychological services
- Sick pay
- Dentistry
- Cross-border rights

Travel expenses
Individuals with mobility impairments and other disabilities may be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses when it is necessary to travel to access healthcare services that are not available locally. It is also possible to receive reimbursement for a stay at a hospital hotel. You can read about it at Iceland.is
Individuals who are registered residents of areas outside the city and on islands are also entitled to Air bridge which provides a discount on the fare to the city.
Training – reimbursement
Sjúkratryggingar Íslands participates in the subsidization of training for individuals with disabilities, as well as for those who are medically insured here in the country. Subsidized training is:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy

Subsidy for drug costs
The copayment system for prescription drugs is based on a sliding scale, where each individual pays a proportionally smaller share as their drug costs increase within a twelve-month period. More information about this can be found at Iceland.is
