The municipalities of Hveragerði, Ölfus, Grímsnes- og Grafningshreppur, Árborg, Flóahreppur, and Bláskógabyggð, Hrunamannahreppur, Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur, Ásahreppur, Rangárþing ytra, Rangárþing eystra, Skaftárhreppur, and Mýrdalshreppur operate the Bergrisan municipal joint venture for the affairs of people with disabilities.

The member municipalities delegate to the joint municipality the planning and provision of services for people with disabilities who are residents of the member municipalities, in accordance with the Act on Services for People with Disabilities with Long-Term Support Needs No. 38/2018.

The role of the intermunicipal association is to implement the service. Its financial and professional framework is described in more detail in the bylaws of Bergrisan bs.
